My husband and I knew that there was a muskrat in the area as well because I had taken his photo a couple weeks ago.
When I took this photo, it was so dark that I had to use my flash. We thought this was the beaver at first.
I didn't realize that I had photographed the muskrat and not the beaver until I uploaded it. The muskrat has less hair
around the mouth, and is also much smaller. The muskrat has a long thin tail and the beaver has a flat wide tail.
We could hear him quite clearly, chomping on his vegetarian dinner just before the sun went down, even though we
were on the other side of the canal! It seems that the muskrat lives close to the beaver, and that they come out together at night.
