The yearling then went back down into the water and swam to another portion of the bank closer to the lodge to dine. Later when the adult tired of eating, she swam down the canal to meet the yearling. She seemed to be planning to cross the towpath to look for more tasty varieties of bark on the other side, but unfortunately, I was standing too close to her on the bank so she stayed in the water. That amazes me. If I had been standing further back, I don't think she would have cared about my presence because she was so intent on her task. The little one gave a tail slap just before they both dove underwater to their lodge.
